Janette Steer

Today's Sepia Saturday theme is 'Theatre', so I thought this picture (one of my many, growing collection of signed actress pictures from the early 20th Century) was perfect. Janette Steer was a Victorian actress who moved to London from the United States in 1893. She was well known for playing Hamlet and for being a militant feminist and suffragette- she was a close friend of the Pankhurst family and socialised with many of the suffragette actresses such as Ellen Terry. Interesting lady!

Gertie in a kilt

It's Burn's Night, I thought this picture was fitting!

Girl Scout

The original photo on Sepia Saturday was a photo of a girl with a doll. I didn't have anything like that, but I do have this!  Pretty sure she's not a Guide or a Brownie, but I could be wrong!

A grand old dame

This lady looks like she is modelling herself on Queen Victoria- and look at that tiny waist! Corsets had a lot to answer for!
