Rebecca Walters, c1905

This lovely lady comes courtesy of my friend Lucy- whose family photo album I envy tremendously!

  1. She looks in fine form. Look at her posture! I do wonder how ladies of that time kept hats on their heads. Hers looks just barely balanced in place. She probably had some very long hatpins going through her beautiful hair.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful photograph with us.

  2. She looks like a character from a Merchant Ivory film. Wonderful!

  3. Oh there goes a woman who has been forced to walk around classrooms with a pile of books on her head in order to achieve a perfect posture. Not sure how perfect it is however as I am put off by the seriousness of it all. But what a wonderful picture it makes.

  4. It’s certainly a lovely hat. I can see why you are envious of the album, if all the photos are of this quality.

  5. Miss Rebecca was walking with very good posture to keep that hat on her head and if got away from her she had her ever trusty umbrella to spear it with!

  6. Nice pic! She looks a bit stern... I wouldn't risk an argument with her, that umbrella looks like a mighty weapon.

  9. Im a bit late commenting, I must have missed you somewhere.

The way she is holding the umbrella reminds me of a sergeant major with his pace stick. He would have been a stickly for posture and a hat worn correctly - just like her.
